Meetings 2012

12TH NOVEMBER 2012

Present
John James, Sue James, Jeanne Brewin, Malcolm Brewin, Ruth Webb, Andy Webb

Apologies
Jill Chatwin

Claypits
John James put four fish in the pond, but has not been able to find them since! He and Andy cleared some of the brambles in September and there has not been too much regrowth yet. Gareth James (Glanrhyd Farm) and Malcolm will meet on site to discuss the easiest way of making a path round it. John mentioned the broken seat, which is just outside the Claypits, at the last Amroth Community Council meeting and the Chairman, Roger Harries, has spoken to Wayne Davies who has agreed to mend this one and the one at the Folly Cross. Steve Harland ‘rescued’ a picnic table, which was going to be disposed of by a caravan site, and he gave it to John who is keeping it under cover over the winter. In the spring, it will need a coat of preservative and can eventually be taken to the Claypits.

Old School Garden
Jeanne and Ruth will weed the raised flower bed in the spring.

Treasurer’s Report
We have £103.21 in our current account and £121.92 in our deposit account (a total of £225.13).

Quiz Evening
The quiz evening and supper held on Saturday 15th September was enjoyed by those who came, and raised about £100 for the Community Association (half from the entrance fee and half from the raffle). Special thanks go to our host, John Lewis-Tunster, who provided an excellent and varied selection of questions.

Walk around Laugharne
The walk around Laugharne on Sunday 30th September proved to be very enjoyable, despite the wet and unpleasant weather. Our thanks go to Jill Chatwin for organising it, researching the route, and acting as the guide.

Forthcoming Events
Walk starting from Pembroke mill pond, Saturday 29th December More details later.
Walk around Carew. Early next year; more details later.

Any Other Business
Carol Service – John James has spoken to Kevin Phelps, the Headteacher of Tavernspite School, who said that he is doubtful as to whether he would be able to get enough children to take part because there are not many children from Llanteg at the school now. The opinion of the meeting was that children are an essential part of a carol service so, in view of this, it was decided that we should not hold one in the Village Hall this year. We nevertheless remain very grateful to Kevin and pupils from his school for their very enthusiastic previous participation and hope that this may be renewed at some capacity in the foreseeable future.
Wind Turbines
1) A wind turbine at Martin’s Hill Farm in Martletwy, which will be 61 m to the tip of the blades, has been approved on condition that it has lights on the top because of its proximity to Templeton Airfield.
2) The predictions are that the planning application for a 62 m wind turbine on land south of Crosslands, Llanteg, will go to the full Planning Committee for a decision as opposed to a delegated authority.
3) Concern was expressed about the cumulative effect of successive applications which could lead eventually to there being the equivalent of a wind farm in the Llanteg area.

NEXT MEETING:
MONDAY 14TH JANUARY 2013 AT 7.30 PM

10TH SEPTEMBER 2012

Present
John James, Sue James, Malcolm Brewin, John Lewis-Tunster, Ruth Webb, Andy Webb

Apologies
Jill Chatwin, Ruth Roberts, Jeanne Brewin

Claypits
John James has cut the grass in the top part but there are lots of brambles encroaching on the areas that we have cleared. Andy and John James will make a start on strimming them with a brush cutter later this week. Malcolm has spoken to Gareth James (Glanryd Farm) and Gareth will quote for creating a simple path around the site. The ground is very wet at present and so it was decided that we should delay creating the path until the weather is drier (possibly in the early spring of next year). We will plan the route of the path and start clearing it where possible.

Old School Garden
Malcolm has strimmed part of the area. Fallen twigs need to be removed from the paths, and Jeanne and Ruth will weed the raised flower bed when time and the weather permit.

Forthcoming Events
Quiz Evening, Saturday 15th September at 7.30 pm in Llanteg Village Hall. This will be hosted by John Lewis-Tunster and a light supper will be provided. Bring your own alcoholic drinks if you wish. Teams of up to four people, tickets £5 per person.
Walk around Laugharne, Sunday 30th September. Meet at 1.45 pm in the main car park near the castle for a 2 pm start.
Remembrance Sunday, Sunday 11th November. John Lewis-Tunster will lead an informal remembrance service in Llanteg Village Hall, starting at 10.30 am. All are welcome.
Walk starting from Pembroke mill pond, Saturday 29th December or Sunday 30th December (date to be confirmed). More details later.
Walk around Carew. Early next year; more details later.

Any Other Business
The informal Community Carol Service in Llanteg Village Hall was very well-supported last year and we hope to be able to hold one again this year on the afternoon of either Sunday 2nd or Sunday 9th December.

NEXT MEETING:
MONDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 2012 AT 7.30 PM

30TH JULY 2012
Present
John James, Jill Chatwin, Sue James, Malcolm Brewin, Jeanne Brewin, Ruth Webb, Andy Webb.

Apologies
Ruth Roberts.

Claypits
John James has cut the grass but there are lots of brambles encroaching on the parts that we have cleared. Andy will strim them with a brush cutter when the weather improves. Malcolm has spoken to Gareth James (Glanryd Farm) and Gareth will quote for creating a simple path around the site. When we have some idea of the cost, we will be able apply for a grant from Awards for All Wales. It was agreed that a seat or picnic table should be put at the Claypits at some point.
The seat next to the entrance to the Claypits is falling apart and needs to be replaced. John will mention this at the next Amroth Community Council meeting in September.

Old School Garden
Jeanne and Ruth will weed the raised flower bed when time and the  weather permit. The new seats need to be stained before the winter.

Treasurer’s Report
We have £103.21 in our current account and £121.92 in our deposit account (a total of £225.13).

Community Walks
The walk around Colby on Sunday 1st July was very much enjoyed by all who attended. Melanie Jones of Let’s Walk Cymru has contacted Jill. She would like to get the coordinators, tutors, walk leaders and some walkers together to discuss how they would like Let’s Walk Cymru to develop. Jill will suggest Llanteg Village Hall as a venue for one of these meetings.

Walk starting from Pembroke mill pond, Saturday 30th December. Jill will try to get someone to talk about the wildlife on this walk. More details later.
Walk around Carew. Early next year; more details later.

Any Other Business
1) Amroth Jubilee Celebrations raised £1454 for Tinker’s Hill Bird Sanctuary. Another event is planned for the Spring Bank Holiday next year.
2) There are no further planning applications for wind turbines to report. The applications for the Prince’s Gate turbines have been approved.
3) There is a vacancy in the Amroth Ward of the Community Council. Anyone who is interested in becoming a councillor should contact Pauline Davies, Clerk to Amroth Community Council, on 01834 810360.

NEXT MEETING: MONDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER 2012 AT 7.30 PM

28TH MAY 2012
Present - John James, Jill Chatwin, Sue James, Malcolm Brewin, Jeanne Brewin, Ruth Webb, Andy Webb

Apologies – Ruth Roberts

Claypits

The gates were hung on 13th April and John thanked Malcolm and Jeanne for finishing the post and rail fencing between the gateposts and the hedge on either side. The gates and fencing have now all been paid for. We can apply for National Lottery funding to dispose of tree roots, to level out the uneven ground and to get in a contractor to create a path around the site. If we were successful in obtaining a grant, the money would have to be spent within a year of receiving it. We will get quotes for making a path round the perimeter of the Claypits.

Old School Garden

Malcolm and Andy will apply weedkiller to the paths when the weather permits and Jeanne and Ruth will weed the raised flower bed.

Treasurer’s Report

We have £103.21 in our current account and £121.90 in our deposit account (a total of £225.11). Jill and Rob have bought some wildlife guides to use on the community walks.

Community Walks

The walk around Bosherston on Sunday 22nd April was very successful and enjoyed by all who attended. Our guide was Paul Calyer (Senior Reserve Manager, Countryside Council for Wales) and he was very knowledgeable about the history and wildlife of the area.

Unfortunately, the springtime walk starting from Carew had to be postponed because several people were unable to be there on the day.

Forthcoming Events

Community Association Walk around Colby, Sunday 1st July at 2 pm. Meet in the overflow car park the top of the hill up from the entrance to Colby Woodland Garden. Change of meeting point – see top of page.

Other walks planned are: Laugharne (end of September/beginning of October) and Pembroke (during the Christmas break). More details will follow.

Quiz Evening, Saturday 15th September at 7.30 pm in Llanteg Village Hall. This will be hosted by John Lewis-Tunster and a light supper will be provided. More details later.

Any Other Business

1) Amroth Jubilee Celebrations will run from Saturday 2nd until Monday 4th June and will include activities for children, a pig roast, stalls selling local crafts etc, a quiz, a fireworks display and a band. Money raised will be donated to a local charity.
2) The planning application for a temporary anemometer mast, 40 m high, to be erected in the field behind The Downs (Planning Application Number 11/1009/PA) was approved by Pembrokeshire County Council on 12th March 2012. There were a considerable number of objections to this. The application for a wind turbine at Trelessy Farm, which is in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (Planning Application Number NP/12/0133) was turned down on 16th May in a unanimous decision by the Planning Committee of the National Park.
3) Caz Ward of Coed Marros has some apple trees for sale.
4) PLANED are having an open day at the Old School, Station Road, Narberth on Tuesday 12th June from 8 am to 2 pm.

NEXT MEETING: MONDAY 30TH JULY 2012 AT 7.30 PM.

 26TH MARCH 2012

Present
John James, Jill Chatwin, Sue James, Malcolm Brewin, Ruth Webb, Andy Webb.

Apologies
Jeanne Brewin; Ruth Roberts.

Claypits
The gateposts have now been installed. Our grateful thanks go to Gareth James (Glanrhyd Farm) who used his digger to make the holes and position the posts.  The gates will be hung in April as time and the weather permit and we will need some post and rail fencing to go between the gateposts and the hedge on either side. John thanked Andy and Malcolm for their part in cementing in the posts, Roy James for clearing a large quantity of overgrown and misshapen bushes and undergrowth at the Claypits, and Mike Plumb for shredding both this and the trees which had been thinned out at the Old School Garden. The next step will be to see if we can obtain funding to dispose of tree roots, to level out the uneven ground and to get in a contractor to create a path around the site. Jill will approach PLANED about this.

Old School Garden
Jill has sent the photographs of members of the Community Association with the information board, notice board cabinet and benches to PLANED as requested and they have acknowledged that they have received them. The large potted plants which were kindly donated by a friend of Jill’s are now in the Garden and will be planted out shortly.

Treasurer’s Report
We have £106.55 in our current account £171.88 in our deposit account (a total of £278.43).

Community Walks
For those who qualified as walk leaders on the Steps2Health training course, the insurance via the Steps2Health project will be in place from April, but the certificate has not yet come through. It was agreed that we should perhaps do four walks a year, starting with a springtime walk starting from the main car park in Carew. Suggestions for the other walks were Colby (summer), Laugharne (autumn) and Pembroke (winter).

Forthcoming Events
Walk, Sunday 22nd April at 2.30 pm. Meet at the National Trust car park at either Stackpole Quay or Bosherston (the starting point has not yet been decided). For further details, contact Jill Chatwin (llantegcat7@gmail.com). Please note a) that members of the National Trust will not have to pay for the car park but there will be a charge for non-members, and b) the walk will include some steep steps.
Community Association Walk around Carew, Sunday 27th May at 2.30 pm. Meet at the main car park in Carew (opposite the public toilets). More details later.
Other walks planned are: Colby area (possibly Sunday 8th July), Laugharne (end of September/beginning of October) and Pembroke (during the Christmas break). More details will follow.

Quiz Evening, Saturday 15th September at 7.30 pm in Llanteg Village
This will be hosted by John Lewis-Tunster and a light supper will be provided. More details later.

Any Other Business
1) Amroth Jubilee Celebrations will run from Saturday 2nd until Monday 4th June and will include activities for children, a pig roast, stalls selling local crafts etc, a quiz, a fireworks display and a band. Money raised will be donated to a local charity.
2) The planning application for a temporary anemometer mast, 40 m high, to be erected in the field behind The Downs (Planning Application Number 11/1009/PA) was ‘Conditionally approved’ by Pembrokeshire County Council on 12th March 2012. The mast will be there for up to 18 months and if conditions are found to be suitable, indications are that an application will be submitted for a wind turbine similar to the one that has already been erected on Crosslands Road, near Crunwere House. Concern has been expressed by some members of the public regarding the proposed turbine at Trelessy Farm, which is in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (Planning Application Number NP/12/0133).
NEXT MEETING: MONDAY 28TH MAY 2012 AT 7.30 PM.

Meeting 13TH FEBRUARY 2012

Present
John James, Jill Chatwin, Sue James, Malcolm Brewin, Jeanne Brewin, Ruth Webb, Andy Webb.

Apologies
Ruth Roberts.

Claypits
At John James’ request, Amroth Community Council has kindly given us £100 towards the cost of the gates for the Claypits. The gates and posts have now been paid for and Malcolm has collected them. Gareth James (Glanrhyd Farm) will contact Malcolm about a date and time to install the double wooden gate. Roy has cleared some more of the overgrown and misshapen bushes and Sue will contact Mike Plumb to ask him to chip these. We will then drag them out on to the roadside just before he comes. The pond is filling well.

Old School Garden
Andy will forward photographs of members of the Community Association with the information board, notice board cabinet and benches to Jill; she will send them to PLANED, who would like them for a press release. Andy and Malcolm have made a start on thinning out the trees and there is now much more light over the raised flower bed. We will also collect these up so that Mike Plumb can chip them on the same day as the ones at the Claypits. A friend of Jill’s has kindly donated some large potted plants, some of which may be suitable for planting in the Garden.

Treasurer’s Report
We have £106.55 in our current account and £171.87 in our deposit account (a total of £278.42).

Walk Leader Training Course
John thanked Jill for organising this course, which was run on the afternoons of 4th and 11th February 2012 by Paul Morris, who is involved with the Steps to Health project. The course was excellent and enjoyed by all who attended; six members of the Community Association are now qualified to lead walks which do not involve steep hills. When the paperwork is completed, we will be covered via the Steps2Health insurance and Paul has provided us with a manual, health forms, risk assessment forms and registers etc.

Forthcoming Events
Pembroke & District Male Voice Choir Concert, Sunday 11th March, 8 pm in Llanteg Village Hall
Tickets £5 (under 16s £3), tea and biscuits provided. For more information ring Sue on 01834 831468 or vivit www.llanteg-village.co.uk.
Guided Walk from Bosherston (after Easter, date to be arranged)
Jill Simpson, who is covering for Kiri Howell (National Park Community Ranger) who is on maternity leave, will lead a walk from Bosherston after Easter. More details later.
Quiz Evening, Saturday 15th September at 7.30 pm in Llanteg Village
This will be hosted by John Lewis-Tunster. More details later.

Any Other Business

1) Jill will arrange a visit to Stackpole Walled Gardens and we will also invite the Llanteg History Society and the Amroth History Group. More details later.
2) We also plan to visit the Tin Shed Experience in Laugharne in the summer, and possibly lead a walk there.
3) Amroth Jubilee Celebrations will run from Saturday 2nd until Monday 4th June and will include activities for children, a pig roast, stalls selling local crafts etc, a quiz, a fireworks display and a band.
4) A planning application has been submitted to Pembrokeshire County council for a temporary anemometer mast, 40 m high, to be erected in the field behind The Downs (Planning Application Number 11/1009/PA). If permission is granted, the mast will be there for up to 18 months and if conditions are found to be suitable, indications are that an application will be submitted for a wind turbine similar to the one that has already been erected on Crosslands Road, near Crunwere House. Genuine concern has been expressed from some members of the public regarding the possibility of further wind turbine developments in the area.
5) Some people in our area have a very slow Broadband speed and this problem was raised in the last Amroth Community Council meeting, the minutes of which are on the Llanteg Village website. Jill suggested that anyone interested in a solution to this problem should contact Pauline Davies (Secretary to the Community Council).
