Meetings 2013

Meeting on 1st July

Present
John James, Sue James, Jill Chatwin, Malcolm Brewin, Ruth Roberts; Ruth Webb, Andy Webb

Apologies
Jeanne Brewin

Claypits
John expressed his thanks to Malcolm for transporting the two picnic benches from the Old School Garden to the Claypits to replace the one up there which was in need of repair. John will paint a protective coating on to them. Malcolm has removed the broken bench and will try to repair it. John will put some orange tape across to stop people from going beyond the pond because this area has not been cleared. It was agreed not to put a fence around the pond itself because it was felt that this would spoil the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the fish that John put into the pond a few months ago have gone.

Old School Garden
John has strimmed the Old School Garden several times but it needs to be done again, especially the lower area. He, Malcolm and Andy will try to do this in the next week or two.

Treasurer’s Report
We have £122.02 in our current account and £207.21 in our savings account (a total of £329.23).

Forthcoming Events
Walk around Carew, Saturday 13th July. Just over 2 miles in length. Meet at picnic area car park north of the castle (i.e., at the opposite side of the mill pond from the castle) at 2 pm.
Dylan Thomas’s Birthday Walk, Laugharne, Saturday 28th September. More details later.
Christmas Show in Llanteg Village Hall. More details later.
Walk in Stackpole area. December – more details later.

Possible merger of Llanteg Community Association with Llanteg Village Hall Committee
The constitution of the Community Association (CA) states that, for the merger to occur, there would have to be a two-thirds majority of CA members in favour. According to the constitution of the Village Hall Committee, a straight majority of members in favour would be required. All those present at this evening’s meeting (and Jeanne Brewin who was unable to attend) voted in favour of the merger and, when this was discussed at the Llanteg Village Hall Committee meeting on 14th May 2013, the majority of members of that committee were also in favour. Thus, it was agreed by the CA that the merger should take place and that the new body should have a new name, possibly the ‘Llanteg Village Hall and Community Association’. At its next meeting on 8th July 2013, the Village Hall Committee will confirm that the merger will go ahead. As a part of the Village Hall, which is a registered charity, it would be easier for the CA to apply for grants.

John thanked all the members of the Community Association for all their hard work and support since it began in 2007. Ruth expressed the Association’s appreciation to John for his role as Chairman over the past six years because, without his leadership and organisational skills, we would not have been able to achieve our objectives of reclaiming the Old School Garden and the Claypits. Malcolm volunteered to become a member of the new committee and John will continue to help to maintain the Old School Garden and the Claypits.

After a discussion, it was agreed that Andy and Jill should ask HSBC if it would be possible to close the two CA accounts and then put the funds from both into one new account, which would be a sub-account of the current Llanteg Village Hall Committee, and which would have several signatories, including the Treasurer of the Hall Committee.

Any Other Business
It was suggested that our local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), Hannah Francis, be asked if she would like to come to the Village Hall on a Wednesday evening at 7 pm, before the start of a Hall Committee meeting. The Wednesday meetings of the Committee begin at 8 pm.

This concluded the business of the Llanteg Community Association.

Any Other Business
1) Possible merger of Llanteg Community Association with Llanteg Village Hall Committee
This was suggested by the Chairman, John James, at the last meeting and will be discussed at the next Llanteg Village Hall Committee meeting on Tuesday 14th May 2013. The interests of the two are compatible and the two committees have several members in common. The constitution of the Community Association states that, for the merger to occur, there would have to be a two thirds majority of Community Association members in favour. According to the constitution of the Village Hall Committee, a straight majority of members in favour would be required. If the two committees voted to merge, a meeting would be necessary to wind up the Community Association and the funds of the Community Association would be transferred to the Village Hall Committee, but in a separate bank account. One option would then be to run the Community Association as a sub-committee of the Village Hall Committee.

It is believed that Amroth Community Council (ACC) owns the land on which the Old School Garden and the Claypits stand, so any activities carried out on either of these sites should be covered by the ACC insurance. John will mention this possible merger at the next ACC meeting on 16th May.
2) The next drop-in session with our local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), Hannah Francis, will be held in Llanteg Village Hall on Wednesday 12th June 2013.
3) John James suggested holding first aid classes in Llanteg Village Hall. Jill will contact St John Ambulance.

NEXT MEETING: MONDAY 1st JULY 2013 AT 7.30 PM

Meeting on 25th March 2013

Present

John James, Sue James, Malcolm Brewin, Jill Chatwin; Ruth Webb, Andy Webb

Apologies
Jeanne Brewin, John Lewis-Tunster

Claypits
No progress has been possible here because of the bad weather. It was agreed that, because the water table is so low, the land is too wet for us to be able to put a gravelled path right round the pond. A path up to the pond is the only feasible option. The picnic table which is destined for the Claypits is under cover at present and Malcolm has kindly agreed to move it there when the weather improves.

Old School Garden
Nothing to report.

Treasurer’s Report
As of 28th February 2013, we have £207.21 in our current account and £121.96 in our savings account (a total of £329.17.

Walk round Pembroke mill pond and Holyland Woods, Saturday 9th March
The sun shone and the walk was enjoyed by those who came. Jo Brookman of Pembroke 21C gave us a guided tour through Holyland Woods and one of her colleagues then took us round the mill pond, pointing out features of both ecological and historical interest. Our thanks go to them and to Jill Chatwin for organising this very interesting walk.

Any Other Business
1) A drop-in session with local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), Hannah Francis, was held in Llanteg Village Hall on Wednesday 13th February 2013. Local problems discussed included the theft of metal (e.g., manhole covers) for sale as scrap. Tenby and Saundersfoot police stations are now closed and there is a police van for face-to-face contact at Five Arches in Tenby. Hannah covers Ludchurch, Begelly and Kilgetty. The PCSO for our area is Jim Moffat who can be contacted on 101 or his mobile number (07769218581); Hannah’s mobile number is 07807475753. The next two drop-in sessions will be on Wednesday 10th April and Wednesday 12th June between 6 and 8 pm. All are welcome to attend. Hannah has contacted Sue James with a view to starting a Neighbourhood Watch scheme for the main road through Llanteg.
2) John James suggested holding first aid classes in Llanteg Village Hall. Jill will contact St John Ambulance.

Claypits
It is too wet to do anything here at the moment. Malcolm will contact Gareth James to discuss the easiest way of making a path around the site when the weather improves. John James has seen at least some of the fish that he put into the pond several weeks ago. The picnic table which is destined for the Claypits is undercover at present. John will apply preservative to it when the weather permits and Malcolm will transport it.

Old School Garden
Jill has had several favourable comments about this on her geocaching website.

2) Sue will contact a theatre group about the possibility of a Christmas show in the Hall.
